The world of Formula 1 is no stranger to the winds of change, where drivers come and go, and seats on the grid are highly sought after. In the midst of this ever-evolving landscape, one driver’s aspirations for a fairytale ending have sparked speculation and raised questions about the future of Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez. With Daniel Ricciardo waiting in the wings, could his return to the team be on the horizon?
Daniel Ricciardo, the Australian sensation, began his F1 journey as a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, Toro Rosso. He earned a promotion to Red Bull Racing, where he captured seven GP victories. However, he departed the team after the 2018 season. Despite high expectations, Ricciardo’s performances with both Renault and McLaren fell short, leading to his return to Red Bull Racing as a reserve driver. As Ricciardo mentioned, “If I could have a fairytale ending to my career, I’d love to do it at Red Bull. But we’ll see…” He yearns for a comeback on the grid with the team that played a significant role in his career.

In a press roundabout about his NASCAR outing in Chicago, Button mentioned that while Perez may not be in immediate danger of losing his seat, the future remains uncertain. Button mentions, “I don’t think Pérez is in danger of losing his cockpit this year, but who knows what will happen at the end of the year. But who should replace him? Of course they have Daniel Ricciardo as their ambassador, but I don’t know if they want to use him,” while also expressing doubts about the Australian driver being given the opportunity.”
Button raises valid concerns about Red Bull Racing’s decision-making, leaving room for other possibilities. He suggests, “Red Bull Racing could also promote one of the two AlphaTauri pilots. But who would get a chance–Nyck de Vries or would you put Yuki Tsunoda in an A-Team?”
