Remember when the rookie driver was given preference over Fernando Alonso in 2007? That rookie is now a seven-time world champion, whereas Alonso is still stuck on his two world championships won before that rookie’s arrival. Some things stay within forever. Fernando Alonso’s innate F1 goal involves Lewis Hamilton, his 7 world titles, and retribution. Not having won a race in over a decade, will Fernando achieve his goal?

Fernando Alonso won the two championships in 2005 and 2006. It looked like he was destined to break Michael Schumacher’s record. He even came within whiskers of winning the championship in 2007, 2010, and 2012. The decision to move teams at the wrong times cost him dearly. The Spaniard is winless in over a decade and last won a GP with Ferrari. However, the story would’ve been different had Alonso been treated fairly at McLaren in 2007 alongside Lewis Hamilton, who has equaled the 7X title record.

Fernando Alonso, still in his heart, believes he could’ve beaten Lewis Hamilton in 2007 and that he still can if an opportunity presents itself. We’ve already seen Alonso’s spectacular overtake on Hamilton in Bahrain in 2023. The host of the unlapped podcast suggested that Fernando Alonso believes he’s the best driver. He explained if Alonso could beat the 7x world champion in equal machinery, the Spaniard would feel that he has achieved much more than his 2 championships.

According to the Unlapped Podcast, the host suggested, “I’ve no doubt that Fernando in his heart believes he can beat Lewis because for obvious reasons. Fernando Alonso will believe that he is the best driver in the world. So if he could then beat Lewis Hamilton 7-time world champion in equal machinery it goes some way to kind of vindicating his belief that he is much more than a 2-time world champion which is what the record books say and is actually worthy of many more championships.”
