Ever since joining Red Bull’s program as a 17-year-old, Max Verstappen has been a hot commodity. Even before he joined F1, the Austrian team invested heavily in him. All that investment finally paid off in 2021 and more so in 2022. All this success hasn’t come easily, though. Max needs to follow a certain set of rules, carved out by his team, some of which are bizarre, to say the least. They are all in place to ensure his safety and protect him from any harm that could render him unfit for racing.
Some of these restrictions, like watching his weight, are very crucial. F1 engineers are very particular about cars’ weight as it can hamper their performance and pace. As drivers are one with the car while driving it, they have to watch their weight as well. While letting go a bit during the off-season is fine, Max is always expected to come back in shape to hit the ground running as the new season begins.
While watching his diet is crucial to maintain an appropriate weight, so is following a training regime. The Dutchman trains twice a day and has a personal trainer, Bradley Scanes, who ensures he follows the training schedule religiously.

One important restriction that Max is not really a fan of is the choice of vacation destinations. Red Bull forbid Max from skiing in the snow. As reported by RacingNews365, he revealed in a 2018 interview with Ziggo Sport, “We no longer go skiing, Red Bull does not allow that. We are not taking any risks, because next year will be a very important year for us. I therefore understand that they do not want to take any risks.”

This is not the only dangerous activity they do not allow him to engage in, though. Jet skiing is another one he loves but isn’t allowed to do.
Max Verstappen cannot ride a MotoGP bike even if he wants to
Verstappen is a speed devil, and that is no secret to F1 fans. He is also quite a MotoGP enthusiast but isn’t allowed to ride a bike. He revealed that in an interview with legendary MotoGP racer Marc Marquez.
In a December interview from last year, they asked the Red Bull star, “For Max, what is the most fascinating thing about MotoGP?”
Max replied, “These guys are crazy. I mean the speeds you have on the street, the horsepower on the bike, I would like to try it one day. I’m still not allowed to do it.”
When Marc asked him why it was so, Max told him it was because his team did not allow him to.
As much as Verstappen has to watch what he eats, he also has to watch what he drinks. Alcoholic drinks are a certain no. But winning champagne is definitely a welcome one, and so is Red Bull, for promotional purposes only, of course.

Max infamously defied team orders in Brazil last year to not let Sergio Perez pass. Since then, team boss Christian Horner cracked the whip to show him that he is still part of a team.
The Dutchman is known to speak his mind as he pleases but sometimes, his comments come off as rude. After the Sergio Perez incident at Interlagos, he lashed out at his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase on the team radio. To ensure such incidents do not occur his personal trainer once revealed how he sits down with him after each session and remind him not to shout anything that comes to his mind.
He is also told what to wear whenever he’s in front of the camera. That is to make sure the team’s branding and sponsors are visible through his clothing.
