Eddie Jordan may not be in F1 anymore, but his stories are definitely as entertaining as always. To narrate them and to give his analysis of the fast-paced world of zooming cars, he started a fun podcast. To accompany him, he has the best partner in David Coulthard who gets the best out of him. In a recent episode, Eddie recalled a crazy story about he got the legendary Ronnie Wood to curate a special artwork for him. One that Ronnie loved so much that he offered him eye-watering sums to buy it back, but the former F1 team manager refuses to part ways with.

Jordan, 75, has lived quite an amazing life among the who’s who of the world. His years of experience in F1 certainly gives him the authority to present the behind-the-scenes perspective to his audience. Currently, he is making headlines for his opinions on the ongoing affairs in F1. Most recently, he grabbed the spotlight for suggesting Fernando Alonso to introspect about his career choices where he apparently chose money over success.

In a recent episode of the Formula For Success podcast, Jordan talked about his vacation in Barbados where he bumped into Ronnie Wood. Back then, he remembers, Ronnie was still with the Jeff Beck Group and had released a book with all his best paintings. Jordan got his hands on the book through George Harrison who gave it to him as a gift.

“When I went into this bar just to have a rum punch, I saw none other than Ronnie. And Ronnie was there, and we were chatting about things as we walked back down to the sand on the beach. And Ronnie was a great friend of George Harrison and George had recently sent me a book called ‘Wood on Canvas’ which depicted and showed all them wonderful paintings that Ronnie had made. It was absolutely sensational book,” Eddie recalled.

I said, ‘Listen Ronnie I’d like to commission a piece’. And he said, ‘Oh yeah, I’d like that’. And he said, ‘Have you got any subject in mind?’. I said, ‘No, not really’. And we’re just rambling down the beach and here was John Magnier who owns Coolmore Stud which is the great Galileo and all of the great great horses and he was having a foot massage by this guy called ‘Bongo Man’. He’s kind of well-known. And we decided, ‘Hey! Ronnie! What about Bongo Man?’ He said, ‘Perfect!’. And that’s how the painting came by me. I paid fifteen grand for it, he’s tried to buy it back several times.”

Coulthard here interrupted Eddie to ask, At fifty times the price? ($750,000)”

Eddie replied, I just won’t tell it. It’s really something that I cherish. I love it. It’s in our place in Monaco and I absolutely love it.”

Lewis Hamilton is 38 and the only reason is hanging on in F1, according to his own team boss, Toto Wolff, is to win the coveted 8th world championship title. Given how things at Mercedes are going, it does not look like it will happen anytime soon. That has seen him deliver some scathing remarks against his own team. Jordan believes it is time for him to move on now, the way he did with McLaren back in the day.

He said, “My only concern is that Lewis has to find something else in his mojo now and he needs to get out of there. He needs to move on just like he did when he was with McLaren. Get out of Mercedes, Lewis. It’s time you reinvented yourself somewhere else.”
