The Orange Army now has another to cheer for (as well). This will be the first time Max Verstappen will have another Dutchman racing alongside him. The Dutch rookie shared his thoughts during the AlphaTauri event on his probable fanbase from his country. For the fans, perhaps it is the more the merrier, but Nyck de Vries stays wary of making any proclamations, as he knows that the heart of his nation currently beats for their reigning champion.

The 28-year-old, Nyck de Vries, is set to make his Formula 1 debut with AlphaTauri. How he got the seat at Red Bull‘s sister outfit is another interesting story, but it was about time the talented de Vries got a place to race at the apex of motor sporting. The rookie attended the livery unveiling event of his team recently. Someone who had already won hearts even outside his homeland when he secured his first points on his debut at Monza last year, believes “time will tell” how the Dutch fans shower their love at him.

He is dominating our sport at the moment and it is right that the whole country is behind him and that the Dutch are so enthusiastic about Formula 1.” [Translated using Google]

He further added, “I am now starting my Formula 1 journey and while Max (Verstappen, ed.) is busy winning even more championships, I will try to make my mark on this sport as well.”

Nyck de Vries believes his countrymen are behind his compatriot, Max Verstappen

Nyck, although older, has gone on to call Verstappen his ‘older brother’ on track. While the latter got a chance to enter the coveted 20-spot sport at the young age of 17, the former had to showcase greater patience until 28. Incidentally, both the Dutchmen got their ‘break’ with the same team. However, Max, having been around the circus for longer and bringing home the double championship, understandably, has the entire nation behind him.

Still unsure of how fans will react to another’s presence in the arena. But giving them a brighter side to look at, the newbie says the country will have two people to cheer for.

He said, Of course I don’t know how the sport is divided between us. But of course, the Dutch fans are behind Max, and now there are two Dutch people to cheer for!”
