In a thrilling qualifying session, Carlos Sainz demonstrated his resilience under challenging circumstances during the Spanish Grand Prix qualifier. “Max Verstappen is really in a class of its own at the moment. We need a reliability issue or a big mistake from Red Bull or Max himself to win tomorrow,” said Carlos Sainz. He highlights the need for a significant error from Red Bull to have a realistic chance of winning. While Sainz dreams of a triumphant homecoming, he acknowledges Max Verstappen’s invincibility, stating that the Dutchman is currently operating on an entirely different level.

In contrast to Sainz’s success, Charles Leclerc experienced a disappointing qualifying session. The challenging conditions on the circuit, compounded by persistent rain, proved to be a significant hurdle for Leclerc and the Ferrari team. Starting from a delayed position, Leclerc’s revised SF-23 failed to deliver the desired results, leaving him in a disappointing 19th place on the starting grid.

To address the issues plaguing Leclerc’s car, Ferrari made the strategic decision to take a tactical grid penalty, resulting in a pit lane start for the Monégasque driver as reported by Planet F1. Acknowledging the “undrivable” nature of his car, particularly struggling with left-hand corners, Leclerc highlighted the need for a thorough analysis and understanding of the problem. The team opted to change the gearbox, ensuring a comprehensive inspection of the rear end to rectify any underlying issues.
