Sebastian Vettel, who gathered 4 titles and got 53 race wins in his time in F1, still believes he is a failure for his performance, or lack thereof, back at Ferrari.
Vettel was at his peak back at Red Bull from 2010 to 2013, wherein he bagged about four consecutive drivers’ titles. When he switched to Ferrari in 2015, he wanted to win titles for the Italian team. However, only came close to being a runner-up to Lewis Hamilton in the years 2017 and 2018.
Sebastian Vettel has been hard on himself for falling short to achieve his said goals, and therefore, accepts this failure, despite his other phenomenal wins. The German later moved to Aston Martin post his 2020 campaign, which was his lowest since the year of 2007. He finished in P13 with merely 33 points.
When asked if the Ferrari team principal, Mattia Binotto, was in agreement with Sebastian Vettel, he said, “When he joined Ferrari, his ambition and objective was to win the title with Ferrari, and it was our dream and objective as well.”
“So it was a failure for him, but it was a failure altogether as a team. He was very close, or the closest he was was in 2017 and ’18, so we had a few opportunities, but we didn’t get it. I think when your final objective is to do that and when you do not achieve it, it is a failure,” he said, in conclusion.
As the last race of the season came to an end, Sebastian Vettel was spotted in tears post a moving speech.
