Fernando Alonso completed his 350th race in Singapore. While it requires top-level physicality to achieve a feat like that, the will to keep going is equally important. Lewis Hamilton too recently expressed his willingness to complete 400 races. Newly crowned 2022 world champion Max Verstappen however, seems to have no such plans.

Fernando Alonso is in no mood to leave Formula 1. He signed a two-year deal with Aston Martin that begins next season. The signing of the contract means that the two-time world champion will race at least until he is 43. The other double world champion Max Verstappen, however, wants to have some variety in his racing career when he reaches 40.

Max Verstappen has no plans to race in F1 when he is 40

Red Bull star Max Verstappen recently revealed what he wants to do when he turns 40. Much to his fans’ disappointment, he has no intention of continuing in Formula 1 until then. However, he admitted he would like to explore other ventures in motorsports.

Verstappen said, It can be a long time but at the end, I don’t see myself driving until I’m 40 because I want to also do other stuff. I’m having a lot of fun with what I’m doing right now and I’m still in F1 for couple more years, I mean, I’ve signed until ‘28. After that, it also depends a bit of how everything is going. I will probably try to do few different things of racing as well because it’s important also to try different things.”

He is just 25 right now. Who knows, he might change his mind by then. However, the idea of watching him compete in a league like NASCAR or IndyCar is equally tempting. His 2021 competitor Lewis Hamilton, however, has no intention of leaving the F1 grid anytime soon.

Lewis Hamilton wants to cross the 400-race milestone

Lewis Hamilton reached his 300th race at the French GP this year. While his contract with Mercedes runs until the end of 2023, he made his intention of continuing clear.

Hamilton said that he still felt as energized as he did 5 years ago. He said that while the 300 is a huge number, he still feels “young and fresh”. Speaking on 400 races, the 7-time world champion continued, “It’s just a number. I could go to 400 probably.”

While Alonso and Hamilton have made it clear that they have no intention of stopping, it will be the end of an era after Sebastian Vettel will hang up his boots at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see which drivers among the current crop have the pedigree to go as long as these legends of the sport have.
