When Lewis Hamilton entered the world of Formula 1, a grinning Anthony Hamilton declared to the world that his son was going to be the best F1 driver the world will ever see. The man whose motto in life says, still we rise, has probably run out of patience as he stands at the helm of another failed Mercedes campaign. With Hamilton now declaring that he cannot become one with the car, the kingmaker father has come in with a word of advice.

Even though Hamilton put his car within nine-thousandths of the second in a first Q3 run, he perhaps still isn’t a fan of the W14. The British driver sacrificed much of his 2022 season getting beaten by the new Merc recruit only to collect data that could help Silver Arrows improve. While the way forward from making a mistake is learning from it, Hamilton has been very vocal about the team not listening to him and not learning from the mistakes. But as the man who guided the 7x champion, Anthony let the Skysports crew in on what he said to his struggling son.

During the race build-up, Ted Kravitz interviewed Anthony Hamilton, senior Hamilton said, “I keep telling [Lewis]. You gotta love the car, haven’t you? And when you don’t love the car, it’s very difficult. He’s gonna love it soon, I’m sure.”

While Papa Hamilton has full faith in his son loving the car soon, he also believes that the Mercedes man won’t follow in his ex-teammate Fernando Alonso‘s footsteps.

As quoted by the Standard, Anthony said, “Put it this way, I’d be more surprised to see him change teams than walk away. But he says it with some conviction that he will carry on until he gets that eighth title. The team’s given him so much and they won their eighth title.”

“You’d have to say that, if anyone can turn it around, it’ll be Mercedes. I’d say don’t have a knee-jerk reaction like Fernando Alonso in the past, which hasn’t worked out well for him until now. Just put faith in the team that they can turn it around.”
