The Red Bull Taskmaster isn’t someone that we’d consider to be of Jolly nature. After all, the man was the one who demoted or sacked Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, Daniil Kvyat and now Nyck de Vries is the latest victim. However, the task masker trolls Sergio Perez for an unwanted record against Max Verstappen just a couple of days after being accused of having heartless sentimentality. What is this record that he’s joking about?
Helmut Marko was recently accused by Damon Hill of having heartless sentimentality when it came to business as Nyck de Vries was sacked by the team and Daniel Ricciardo was signed. With Sergio Perez’s subpar performances recently, many believe that Daniel Ricciardo, who recently joined AlphaTauri will be the 2024 Red Bull driver to pair Max Verstappen.
While it is true that Sergio Perez’s performances, especially in qualifying, have been poor for the last 5 races, the race pace of the Mexican has been pretty good. According to F1Maximaal.com Helmut Marko said, “They [Qualifying Performances] are substandard, but he’s doing well with very good performance in the race.”

Daniel Ricciardo was only Max Verstappen’s teammate for 2.5 seasons. Max Verstappen beat Daniel Ricciardo in 2018 and the Australian shifted teams the very next season. While the pressure to have a teammate like Max Verstappen is very high, Sergio Perez has been able to survive them save. Helmut Marko jokingly said, “He’s survived for two and a half years. That’s a record too, if we’re talking about records.”
Helmut Marko seems to be satisfied with what Sergio Perez is going as a second driver. While we cannot expect Checo to beat Max Verstappen, P2 every race should be Checo’s minimum expectation in that rocketship of an RB19. However, Nico Rosberg believes Checo might cost Red Bull a possible shot at a performance.

No other team has ever won all the races in a season. Red Bull can very well achieve that feat. However, F1 is a very unpredictable sport. Weather, reliability and so much more can break this record. Hence Red Bull needs as much assurance as they can. But Sergio Perez hasn’t been up there. In case Max Verstappen faces any reliability problem or has bad luck in an incident, Checo needs to be up there and win the race to keep the record hopes alive.
According to Firstsportz.com, Nico Rosberg responded to Marca’s clean sweep question with, “It seems so, right? The difficulty is that, for the moment, they only have one driver who can win all the races. The other one is always behind with many difficulties.”
