After McLaren‘s turnaround, Oscar Piastri is having the time of his life in F1. At the Sprint shootout in Belgium, he even out-qualified his more experienced teammate, Lando Norris. And he converted the P2 that he secured in SQ3 into a P2 in the Sprint Race. Along with him on the podium was Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, in P3, whom he harshly disrespected. A day after that insult, he became the main reason for Gasly’s poor Belgian GP outing.

After the podium in the Sprint race, Piastri celebrated by posting the podium photo of him along with Max Verstappen, who won the race. But he did not post the original photo. Instead, he cropped Gasly out of it. Though that was unexpected and seemed a bit petty, it was understandable looking at his turbulent history with the Enstone outfit. As if that much of an insult to his ex-team’s driver wasn’t enough, he added to their woes in the main race on Sunday.

At Turn 1 in Lap 1, Piastri tried to make an optimistic pass on Carlos Sainz on the inside, but they collided. And as a result, Gasly, who was behind him, got stuck while the other went around the outside. Gasly said, post-race, “I was very unlucky with Oscar [Piastri], who slowed down in Eau Rouge with his damaged single-seater and I got stuck behind him as several cars passed us.” [Translated by Google]

Eventually, the Frenchman couldn’t score any points and blamed it on the Australian Rookie. But more upset than Gasly was Sainz, whose race was directly hampered because of the collision.

Turn 1 in Lap 1 at Spa-Francorchamps is known to be a menace. Everybody except the 1st car tries to make overtakes. And the same happened this time around. Sainz got into a battle with Lewis Hamilton and attempted to make a pass down the inside. But Piastri tried to squeeze through the non-existent gap between Sainz’s Ferrari and the barriers. And guess what happened – they collided and both of them retired with damage to their cars. The Spaniard was pretty pissed at Piastri’s move and attributed it to his inexperience.

Sainz said, as quoted by Sky Sports, “I was on the attack with Lewis, I went to pass him into Turn One, I think I had the move pretty much done and suddenly I received contact on my rear right by Oscar. I honestly didn’t expect him to go and choose to be three into Turn One with him so much on the inside. Maybe a bit of an experience mistake but it’s how it goes.”
