Two of the most important things in a relationship are understanding and trust. It is very tough to succeed in a sport like F1 without having these 2 qualities. Whilst he may have struggled with the two of them at McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo revealed how smooth things were in his time with Red Bull. This comes in contrast to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez’s apparent feud during the Brazilian GP, where the Dutchman ignored to follow team orders and give his place to the Mexican.

The new Red Bull reserve driver revealed in a podcast last season how he’s always been relaxed in the cockpit while talking about team orders.

Daniel Ricciardo and Red Bull were a splendid match. Hence, it came as a big shock when he announced his departure from the Milton-Keynes team. The Australian was tipped to be the next big challenger to Lewis Hamilton. However, his move to Renault (now Alpine) made sure that it wasn’t the case.

However, the Honey Badger revealed in a podcast with EFTM online how things were always in control while communicating with Red Bull. Daniel Ricciardo said, “Yeah I’ve, it’s something I’ve always gone with. I remember when I first joined Red Bull in 2014, in Melbourne when I got the podium and that and I think through the race a lot of my responses were just understood.”

He further added, “I think, Adrian Newey was like he just sounded so calm and everything. I don’t know I felt like understood. Was just a nice way of letting the team know that ‘okay, I get it'”.

The news may come as a big relief to Red Bull star Max Verstappen. Whilst there have been rumors about Daniel replacing Perez at the end of the season, Max Verstappen will be the big beneficiary if that rumor turns into reality.

Despite his unfortunate struggles, Daniel Ricciardo still feels he has a chance in F1. The Aussie driver feels there’s more of him to show at the pinnacle of motorsports.

Daniel Ricciardo is desperate to get “back on the grid”

Despite things not going his way, Daniel Ricciardo is looking forward to being back on the grid in the future. The Aussie driver took the reserve driver spot at the Milton-Keynes-based club. However, he feels like he has more to give and isn’t ruling out a return to the F1 grid anytime soon.

The Honey Badger further added, “I’m not going to say, ‘Yeah, I can have every seat I want’, but ultimately it’s my decision if I want to be back. [Having] that fire, and everything I expect to feel, when the lights go out [in 2023] and I’m watching on the sidelines, that’s up to me to answer.”
