Daniel Ricciardo and his addictive smile are usually the two things that can brighten up any fan’s mood. Whether it is “Pierre Gaaslyyy” or “Nico Huuulkenberg”, one can always count on Ricciardo to be the one with all the banter and pranks brewing in his mind. However, this time around, Alex Albon tried to one-up Ricciardo with his banter but was then met with a warning from the Australian.

The Canadian GP weekend was a disappointment for Alex Albon, who retired from the race with no fault of his own. A spinning Carlos Sainz lost control of the car and hit Albon, who was following him. The Thai driver started the race in P10 after an amazing qualifying and made moves through the field, ending up in contention for the final points finishing places.

However, the highlight of the weekend for Alex Albon was the move he made midway through the race going into the final chicane. Albon passed Ricciardo on the long straight before the chicane, taking the outside line, then overtook Ricciardo, moving to the inside just before taking the chicane, and passed Esteban Ocon. Two overtakes in a matter of seconds that left all the fans in shock and awe.

Alex Albon now took to Instagram to praise his Canadian GP move as he posted pictures from the weekend in Canada. This included a picture where Albon took a selfie wearing a hoodie from Ricciardo’s brand Enchante. The caption to his story was, “Double overtake and a free hoodie? Cheers @danielricciardo (for both)👍”. As Albon tried to tease Ricciardo, the Australian came back with a jab in the comments section as he warned Albon by commenting, “Anytime buddy. The clothing. The overtake, pull a stunt like that again and we’re done.

Despite the DNF, Alex Albon had many positives to take from the Canadian GP weekend as Williams seems to have found a good pace at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Alex Albon positive about fighting in the points at the Canadian GP before the Unfortunate DNF

Williams expected the Canadian GP to be a strong track for them based on the fact that it had long straight and slow corners. Last year Alex Albon did well to score points in Montreal and the same could’ve been repeated at this year’s GP. Nonetheless, Albon was positive about the fact that despite losing some positions because of the strategy, Williams was able to overtake and get up into the points-scoring positions.

Alex Albon said, “When I look at the race as a whole, it seemed like we didn’t take much risk in our strategy but we were making good calls the whole time. We kind of just did what felt right for us and kept fighting for the positions and back into the points. I was enjoying it out there in the mixed conditions. And then 2 drivers went off in the same corner. The first time I had to avoid and lost a position and the lap after Carlos had his spin.
