Remember when Leclerc earlier this season suggested that he was in no hurry to sign a new contract? Charles Leclerc’s contract has been a very debatable topic in the paddock with many teams speculated to show interest in the Monegasque. However, Leclerc was warned against $204M antics as the Daniel Ricciardo scare was shoved down his throat. What is the Ricciardo scare?

Rumors around Charles Leclerc’s move to Mercedes have been reignited in the paddock. Despite Ferrari not being able to deliver a championship-winning car and making the silliest of mistakes every season, Charles Leclerc is believed to have signed a 2+3 year deal worth $204 million. However, Leclerc was recently warned by the hosts of a podcast as they revealed the struggle of getting an F1 seat by giving Daniel Ricciardo’s example.

The host explained how Ferrari’s terrible performances and no real threat to Red Bull in the future might lead to Leclerc regretting a Ferrari deal. However, the host further iterated that there are only 20 seats in F1 and if a driver once loses a seat, it gets very difficult for him to make a comeback. Then Daniel Ricciardo’s comeback example was given for the same as it was explained that Honey Badger’s marketing ability is what makes him a lot more valuable for a team.

According to the VF1 show with VF and Vincenzo, the host said, “I’m not insinuating that Charles Leclerc ever had a doubt at his seat but we know how fickle these seats can be. And we know how difficult it can be to get back. The Daniel Ricciardo situation is not normal. Like that you know, you leave and it’s very difficult to get another shot. And I feel like Daniel, what he’s leveraged, what he lacks may be on track in terms of maybe his racecraft, maybe he doesn’t have top-of-the-line racecraft anymore but he makes up for it in the marketing ability. And any team would be stupid not to want him around.”

We’ve seen this season that Ferrari has had the raw pace as they’ve challenged Red Bull in the qualifying on the basis of sheer pace. It’s the strategy calls and other little things that are not a certainty at Ferrari. From a spectator’s point of view, it sends as if the Scuderia is just confused. This uncertainty of not knowing what will happen was termed the downfall of Ferrari.

According to The Race F1 podcast, the host said “They (Ferrari) do have the speed, they’re not bad. It’s just that on Sunday anything can happen, that’s the thing about it. From tire choice to strategery to just actual lap time, anything can happen. You just never know with Ferrari what’s going to happen and that’s really been the downfall, to be honest.”
