Daniel Ricciardo spent two years at Renault before making a move to McLaren for the 2021 season. However, one of the most memorable things about the Australian’s stint with the French team was his bet with former boss, Cyril Abiteboul.
The wager was that if Ricciardo scored a podium, Cyril would get a tattoo. And, as fate would have, Daniel did manage to score a podium in Germany last season. However, Abiteboul hasn’t gotten his tattoo yet, but Ricciardo hopes to get done before it becomes “old news.”

Daniel finished third in the Eifel Grand Prix last season, which means that he held up his part of the deal. However, the F1 community still wants Cyril to get his tattoo, and Ricciardo has revealed about having held talks with the former Renault boss.
As quoted by Motorsport, “I had an overwhelming number of emails, WhatsApp messages, and all of it, so I did see an email from him.”
“There was the topic of tattoos, so I’m still very optimistic we could get this done before the year’s out. Otherwise, it’s obviously going to drag on and become old news, so I’m determined to make it happen,” Ricciardo explained.

When Ricciardo joined McLaren this season, he placed a bet with his new boss, Zak Brown. It stated if Daniel achieved a podium, he would get to drive his idol, Dale Earnhardt’s car. Brown, on the other hand, would have to take part in Ricciardo’s shoey celebration.
As fate would have, Daniel won the Italian Grand Prix in Monza earlier this season. Zak was true to his word and took part in Ricciardo’s celebration on the podium. However, the McLaren boss still has to give the keys to the iconic car to Ricciardo.
Nevertheless, the world of motorsports will cherish the day when a driver of Ricciardo’s caliber will be behind the wheel of Earnhardt’s car. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments below.
