McLaren’s racing driver, Daniel Ricciardo, has been an ardent fan of Mixed Martial Arts over the past decade, with his interests extending into other fighting leagues as well. Hence, amid the abundant love for the intense sport, the Australian revealed that he challenged Lewis Hamilton, a fellow boxing fan, to a fight many years ago.
I asked Lewis Hamilton: Ricciardo
Speaking to The Athletic, Ricciardo revealed that he had invited Hamilton to a charity fight in 2016 after watching the latter “hitting pads” on social media. But much to the Australian’s disappointment, Lewis turned down the offer from the former Red Bull driver.

“To be honest, I actually asked Lewis Hamilton. At the beginning of 2016, he posted a video on his Instagram hitting pads,” he said.
“I was as well at the time. So I was like “hey, let’s do a charity fight.” I asked him in person. But he didn’t bite on that one so I was a little sad.”
Interestingly, Ricciardo also clarified that he would approach Hamilton again in the future with the same offer. “I might re-ask the question,” he reckoned.

“I’d love to do a charity boxing match or something just to feel that adrenaline of walking to a ring,” Ricciardo said. “It’s on my to-do list for sure. At school, I had a few little fights but nothing crazy. Nothing I’d brag about here.”
As of now, it looks highly unlikely that Hamilton would give Ricciardo the nod for the fight, as the Briton’s focus has been very much intact in racing.
Moreover, with a record-breaking title within touching distance, Hamilton wouldn’t be keen on getting his hands on other sports for the time being. But of course, there’s always the question of ‘what after retirement?’
