The last race in Australia was the home GP of Daniel Ricciardo. F1 was back in Australia after a 2-year absence and the circuit had a few changes made to the track layout. However, the McLaren driver had a very interesting take on the changes to his home track. He also had a thing or 2 to say about the new tracks on the calendar this season.
Daniel Ricciardo the likes new tracks
The last race in Australia saw an F1 race on the modified track of the Albert Park. Homeboy Daniel Ricciardo had a particularly good time around the streets of Melbourne. He expressed his joy over racing on the new layouts. Ricciardo also went on to add his thoughts on racing on the new circuits.

He said, “Going to new places, I think there’s… call it a double upside. You get to explore, if you’ve never been to that place, a new city, new country, then as a driver, trying to suss out a new circuit and break it down quicker than anyone else.”
Ricciardo went on to add, “That’s something we also enjoy and thrive on. I love getting to a new track and trying to just master it quicker than the others.”

This year Miami will debut on the calendar and the drivers will have to learn a whole new circuit in May. It looks like a challenge Ricciardo and co will relish.
New and old together in F1
Ricciardo also believes that the recent modernization that the F1 calendar is great. However, it’s also important to incorporate the older tracks and the history they bring with them. Although he said, “all for it” when it comes to adding new destinations.

He also said, “The flip side is, whether it’s your Monzas or your Spas, your Silverstones, these are tracks we’ve competed at our whole life, so there’s also a lot of history. It’s kind of nostalgic and sentimental to race there.”
The Aussie enjoyed a good outing in his home race in Melbourne and will be hoping for this to be the kick-start to his season. Ricciardo will hope the next race in Italy will also see him enjoy some good fortune along with teammate Lando Norris.
