McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo has paid a heartwarming tribute to fellow countryman and legendary cricketer Shane Warne. Warne died of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand, while on holiday. The magical leg-spinner claimed 708 Test wickets over a career spanning one and a half decades.

Ricciardo took to Instagram to pay his respects to the Australian maestro after the shocking news. He said, “Watching Warney whilst growing up was a big part of an Aussie childhood. Won’t be another one like him.”

According to sources, Warne was on holiday with three friends staying in a private villa when he was found unconscious in his room. The shocking news came after hours after Warne tweeted his tribute to former Australian wicketkeeper Rod Marsh, who passed away at the age of 74.

Shane Warne and Daniel Ricciardo’s Candid Interview Back in 2017

Shane Warne had a brief chat with Ricciardo back in 2017. The veteran cricketer quizzed his counterpart on the Australian Grand Prix and his expectations on returning to his home country. Replying to Warne, Ricciardo said, “Look,  I love coming home, back on Aussie soil is great. I feel the atmosphere and the energy when I come back.”

“It’s busy, it’s a crazy schedule. Unfortunately, I don’t really get a chance to do much in terms of go out for meals in the city and see a whole lot. It’s super fast, it’s enjoyable and I love getting out there. The expectation of the crowd and everything is probably a bit more [at home], but I use that as some positive energy.”

Ricciardo made his debut in Formula 1 with HRT at the 2011 British Grand Prix. He has achieved 8 race wins and 32 podiums, with his most recent win at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. The 32-year old will be aiming to continue his impressive form in 2021, ahead of the season opener in Bahrain on March 20.

McLaren have looked impressive in their first pre-season testing in Barcelona from Feb 23-26. The Australian will team up with youngster Lando Norris once again, as they aim to put up a tough fight against the likes of Red Bull and Mercedes in 2022.
