After racing at the pinnacle of motorsport for more than 15 years, Sebastian Vettel will race his last in Abu Dhabi this Sunday. The 4-time world champion will leave an indelible mark on Formula 1 with his multiple breathtaking performances. Fans got to witness the best of Seb in 2013 when he not only equaled Michael Schumacher’s most race wins in a season record (13) but also set the record for most consecutive race wins (9).
Max Verstappen broke the record for most race wins this year, but the record for most consecutive wins still stands.
Daniel Ricciardo looks back on the good times spent with Sebastian Vettel
Appearing for an interview with Maxim earlier this year in May, Daniel Ricciardo talked about Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive, his relationship with former teammate Max Verstappen and his new wine brand. The Honey Badger also talked about the time he spent with Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull in 2014.
Ricciardo said, “I really enjoyed my year with Vettel in 2014. This was a four-time world champion who I was able to just observe. He had a way of getting what he wanted or getting a point across, which was sometimes intense or robust, but it was respected and taken on.”
“It wasn’t like, “F**k, this guy’s complaining again!” or, “He’s telling us how to do our job!” It was concise, to the point, but it would always end in, Let’s do it together! There’d be some positive reinforcement, but with authority. It was obviously a world champion talking. It was also some German personality, German efficiency, if you will [Laughs].”
Sunday’s Abu Dhabi GP will be Seb’s 299th Grand Prix. While he feels it would be great to win the race, he knows the chances are pretty slim given how Aston Martin has struggled throughout the season.
