Other drivers once feared when they saw a wild honey badger attacking the back of their car. Things have changed drastically since as Daniel Ricciardo prepares to leave F1, at least for a little while. His McLaren tenure didn’t work out as initially planned and the two parties will be mutually parting ways. It marks a sad end to Ricciardo, who was once confident of winning the world title.

Back after beating Sebastian Vettel in his first season at Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo claimed that he was ready for a title challenge himself. Moreover, after Vettel’s move to Ferrari, Daniel became the numero uno driver of Red Bull. In an old interview with the Guardian, Daniel shared his goals for the future.

‘The Honey Badger’ won 3 races in his first stint with Red Bull whereas his teammate and then reigning world champion had none. When asked if he can win the title, the Aussie said, “I definitely think I can.”

He added, “It’s a long season and a lot comes into play, but I definitely believe if I got the opportunity and the equipment behind me, then I can do it.”. He also mentioned, “I proved this year I’m a race winner and can race hard at the front and deal with the pressure.

The Aussie driver’s career has seen a disappointing curve ever since leaving Red Bull. He’ll be hoping to finish his last race by bagging some points for McLaren in Abu Dhabi.

After 11 long years in F1, Daniel is letting his foot off the gas. The Aussie driver has enjoyed a roller-coaster ride and tasted both the highs and lows of the sport. However, the fan-favorite planning to take a sabbatical from the sport next year. He also hopes his sabbatical can be a blessing in disguise to come back stronger.

Daniel said, “I feel like a bit of time away from a race seat will actually do me good, and then try to rebuild on something for ’24.” He also added, “The way the seasons are it’s pretty relentless, you don’t really get a chance to rebuild.”

He further mentioned, “Everyone’s different but I truly believe that will be, let’s say, in a way a blessing in disguise for me … by doing less, I’ll achieve more.

The rumor mill has linked both Mercedes and Red Bull with Daniel for their reserve driver role. However, Daniel is yet to decide on his course for the future.
