Lewis Hamilton made fiery comments against Fernando Alonso after yesterday’s qualifying. The Briton suggested that he will push Fernando Alonso like hell as he started the race behind him. Lewis Hamilton got a better start and overtook the Spaniard going into Turn 1. However, Fernando Alonso stuck to his gearbox and got the DRS services. Most of the cars, including Hamilton and Alonso, decided to pit. Alonso had a marginally faster pit stop and was right there when Mercedes decided to release the Briton. At first glance, it looked like it was an unsafe release from Mercedes as Fernando Alonso frantically moved his steering wheel from side to side. However, in the replay, it was realized that it was just an exaggeration from Alonso who tried to push Hamilton under the bus and attract a penalty toward him.
After the incident, stewards declared that no further investigation is required. In the replays, Toto Wolff was seen imitating Fernando Alonso moving his hand from side to side. Wolff made a funny face while doing so, indicating that he was mocking Alonso. Daniel Ricciardo, who’s fulfilling commentary duties with ESPN, also suggested that Fernando Alonso exaggerated the incident.
However, it looks like Fernando Alonso got revenge for the spicy Hamilton comments as he eventually passed Lewis Hamilton. Let’s see how he did it.
Fernando Alonso passed Lewis Hamilton with a bold move
After the pit stops panned out and the safety car came in, Fernando Alonso was once again back on Lewis Hamilton’s gearbox. The Spaniard did not seem like giving up and sent it on Lap 22. Coming out of the final hairpin, Alonso had a mega run and DRS. He pulled out, braked later than Hamilton, managed to keep the tires spinning and not lock up, went on the inside of the final chicane, and overtook the Briton.
