F1 is back with a bang as Charles Leclerc took pole position last night for the Singapore GP. The Marina Bay Street Circuit also saw a fair bit of rain, which made the qualifying session much more exciting. However, it was Max Verstappen who made all the headlines after aborting his final qualifying lap at the last minute.

The Dutchman raced his way and looked certain to bag the pole position. However, the Red Bull team called him into the pits at the last moment, much to Verstappen’s frustration. Christian Horner and his team then faced the wrath of the Dutch Lion as he lost his cool.
Max’s RBR teammate Sergio Perez, on the other hand, will start tomorrow’s race in 2nd position. Lewis Hamilton will start in the top-3 this season as the Silver Arrows seek their first win of the year.
Subsequently, it was not just fans around the world who were shocked at Max Verstappen aborting his flying lap. Likewise, McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo and Mercedes driver George Russell were equally shocked at Red Bull’s decision.
The video of the two looking at each other in disbelief has gone viral on Twitter.

Meanwhile, fans even reminisced about the Saudi Arabian GP in Jeddah last year, where something similar happened with Max. The Dutchman was on a flying lap and looked set to pip Hamilton for pole position. However, his lap ended in a dramatic fashion after he crashed into the barriers.

Additionally, fans also liked to see the human side and the emotions of the F1 drivers. It was similar to watching a Drive to Survive episode on Netflix.

Max Verstappen will start the Singapore Grand Prix from P8. He could potentially win his 2nd title by winning the Singapore GP. However, that looks like a long shot now. But if there’s anyone who can do the impossible this season, we know it’s the Dutch Lion.
