Evidently, Renault Sport Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo is a big UFC fan. Apparently, he was watching the UFC 247 fight night between Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes. However, he was not too thrilled with the result, as were many others. Jones was declared the winner, via unanimous decision. Unfortunately, many were irked by one particular judge’s score.

Daniel Ricciardo summed up his response and many opinions, with a single tweet. Clearly, judge Joe Solis made a number of people very upset with his score of 49-46 in Jones’ favour. However, he appeared to ignore the initial onslaught brought on by Reyes.

How much does Daniel Ricciardo love UFC?

Clearly, Daniel Ricciardo is a fan of multiple sports, and UFC is just another sport that he adores. He even retweeted a video of fighters, Tai Tuivasa and Cub Swanson performing a Shoey. Ricciardo himself is notorious for his Shoeys whenever he won a race, where he took off one of his boots, poured champagne and drank from the shoe. The Shoey must have been an Australian tradition, as a few other Australian sportspersons performed the act.

Coming back to UFC, Daniel Ricciardo told the F1 Beyond the Grid podcast about his UFC fascination. He said,  “It’s not these barbaric humans getting in a cage. It’s Mixed Martial Arts so there is an art behind it all. I’m just fascinated behind it all,”

“Going back to competition, it’s the purest level of competition in the world. It doesn’t get much more purer than that. You are literally in a cage or a ring.”

He admitted that he always loved combat sports, and grew up with a love for boxing in his childhood. He even incorporated some boxing into his training regime. However, MMA fever stuck him from 2011 onwards and he began to follow it almost religiously.
