When his potential role of the reserve driver came into the picture, Jolyon jumped up to say, “I’m surprised he’s smiling all that much about that to be honest! Daniel Ricciardo, the guy we know and love is the guy is out there racing the way that he did in Mexico. He’s charging through the field. He loves the wheel-to-wheel racing out there. And it was so good to see a spring in his step.”
But eventually coming to the ugly truth, he shared, “Let’s face it, Mclaren aren’t putting him in, Alpine didn’t want him in, And Mercedes on top end, will they put him in at end of the two years he’s had? I don’t think so. So I think the only way that he can rebuild his career from here is to be on the grid and get results. Because you can’t get results as a third driver.”
