For Oscar Piastri to drive at 200 mph speed might be a regular thing. However, it is his mother Nicole Piastri, and his other family members who have to grapple with the anxiety of what might happen on the race tracks. The competition in Formula 1 is brutal, and the twists and turns of the racing circuits are unforgiving. Naturally, when Daniel Ricciardo went to attend his home Grand Prix in Australia in 2018 with a goal to grab the win, his mother was left in the McLaren garage, praying the Honey Badger had a clean race. And all of her emotions took center stage on the first episode of Netflix’s hit docuseries ‘Drive to Survive’.
Now, Daniel Ricciardo‘s Aussie successor at McLaren, Oscar Piastri, has stepped into F1. Since the two talents share the same nationality and they have driven for the same team as well, Oscar’s mother Nicole Piastri relates with Daniel’s mother, Grace Pulitanò. And when Nicole started watching ‘Drive to Survive’, she found a shot of Grace. In the clip, Grace was tensing over Ricciardo’s outing at the Australian Grands Prix in 2018, and this made Nicole realize how difficult it is to be the mother of an F1 racer. So, she never turned in to watch DTS again.
Nicole said on ‘The Red Flags’ podcast, “I was scrolling through Netflix in the middle of the night, and I thought I’ll watch it. The very first episode focuses on Daniel Ricciardo, and they showed his mom. So, by that stage, he had been in [F1] for years and they showed his mom in the garage, and she looked so anxious! I thought she was going to have a heart attack. I thought l, ‘Oh no, this doesn’t get easier and she’s been doing it for years and looked at her. So, I didn’t watch it.”

Oscar Piastri’s mother shared a hilarious post when he won in Hungary
Oscar Piastri’s mother might not like how her son risks his life while racing in F1, but she sure knows how to celebrate when he wins those races! In his 1.5 years in the pinnacle of motorsports, the Australian prodigy has already scored a roaring victory at the Hungarian GP. And to commemorate the 23-year-old’s win, Nicole Piastri quickly took to her social media page.
In the picture that she posted, Nicole sported a Taylor Swift-style ‘Oscar Piastri Eras Tour’ tee. And she stood beside the television which showed her son on the top step of the podium at Hungaroring. In the caption, she mentioned, “6 am Pilates just canceled.” The proud mother added a champagne emoji to indicate why she was canceling all her early morning plans just to celebrate Oscar’s victory.
