The entire F1 community wept as the late commentator, Murray Walker, bid adieu to the world in March this year. There were viewers who enjoyed his commentary more than the actual race, which says a lot about the legacy he left behind.

Murray and one-time world champion, Damon Hill, starred in an advertisement that reached heights only because of Murray’s voice. The Briton’s job the whole time was to commentate on Hill eating his pizza in a restaurant, which made him look like a ‘mad’ commentator.

What did the F1 world champion say about Murray Walker?

Hill reckoned that Murray was indeed a ‘lovely man’, who enjoyed commentating, and exactly knew how to do the job. He further revealed that Murray showed no signs of struggling in front of the camera while shooting the advertisement.

He is a pure professional. I mean, he just became this maddening commentator, that he isn’t really or he wasn’t really. He was a lovely man. But, he knew what he had to do, and he knew how to do it,” he said during the F1 Nation podcast episode, alongside Tom Clarkson and Natalie Pinkham.

And also, he started advertising, so he was completely on his patch because he exactly knew what the game was,” Hill further added.

So, the commercial was a big success, very funny and basically Murray’s commentating on me eating a Pizza, which was the funny thing. And then, I get cheesed off with him, no pun intended,” he said. Hill also revealed when the commercial first aired on TV.

Hill said, “I think it was 96 or 98 or something like that.” Murray was undeniably the voice of F1, who worked tirelessly in bringing out pictures into words on the live telecast and continued to do so for 25 years.
