Williams has been in a rough spot for a while now. The team that dominated F1 once is now scrapping for every single point. From the team perspective as well, the Grove-based outfit isn’t catching a break with several changes. First, they had to drop Nicholas Latifi, and then their team boss Jost Capito and Technical director FX Demaison also parted ways with the outfit. Although, now a huge sponsorship purge is another big blow to the already downbeat British team.
According to sponsor watcher Decalspotters, several partners’ names have been withdrawn from Williams’ updated partner list for 2023. The notable names missing from this list include Terra Virtua, their Metaverse partner. The Grove team announced their partnership with Virtua as a multi-year deal in 2022.

Although, it doesn’t seem to have worked out, as the deal has probably been cut short within a year. Virtua is a metaverse company that works in digital collectibles and gaming using blockchain technology. As per Motorsport Magazine, they were working on a fan engagement model for Williams with a metaverse racing league-type competition.
Besides Virtua, Nicholas Latifi’s personal sponsors Lavazza and Sofina Foods have also withdrawn from Williams’ sponsor list. While this was expected as Latifi won’t be racing for the team from 2023, it is a critical kick down for the British outfit. Lavazza has been sponsoring Latifi’s career since 2016. And Sofina Foods is Latifi’s father Michael Latifi’s company.
As of now, there is no official confirmation about either of these probable conclusions of sponsorships from the team.

Still, Williams would be looking to move on and focus on their 2023 lineup Alex Albon along with Logan Sargeant. On another note, even Sargeant’s family background has been talked about. So the team may receive some much-needed financial backing from Logan’s sponsors as well.
Williams looks to Return to Glory days in F1 with Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant
Looking at the team’s current state; there is little possibility of Albon and Sargeant getting a highly competitive car, even for the midfield. Williams has a big steep mountain to climb from the 2023 season onwards.
2022 gave the Grove outfit a solid driver in Alex Albon. Williams has played it smartly by securing the Thai driver for a multi-year deal. Albon seems to have hit his stride well away from the pressure cooker of Red Bull. But, the team needs to give him a better car to unlock his full potential.
Meanwhile, getting Logan Sargeant is a good move, showing belief in their Academy talent pool. The American driver has shown promise in F2 and can be a surprise package. Though, Williams’s main issue is how are they going to develop pace in their car.
There was a time when the team was spectacular with car development and made beast-like cars. The 1992 FW14-B is a classic example of how fine engineering Williams was able to do back in the day.

If they can steadily climb up to attain similar finesse in their car performance in the next few years, their F1 redemption is achievable. Though, again sponsorship money and financial backing will be crucial to their development plans.

Nevertheless, it has to be one step at a time, as the Grove outfit needs to climb out of the wooden spoon position. If Williams can get into the fight for 7th or 8th place in the constructors for 2023, it will be a big win for the team. What do you expect of Williams in the future?
