In this ruthless world of Formula 1, many drivers embody the spirit. However, there are hardly any that do it as well as Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard has infamously been a menace to his teammates and continued to do so until last season. Such is the competitive nature of Alonso and exactly what makes him so good. Most drivers carry this attitude away from the grid as well and it often shows in their interviews. However, Alonso, especially after his sabbatical in 2018, has changed that about himself.

The new hope of Aston Martin is known to be a cut-throat competitor and always poses a challenge as a teammate. After all, in Formula 1, one’s teammate is his biggest rival. Although, for Alonso, the track is where this nature is limited to. Beyond the track, the Spaniard is an absolute joy, especially for journalists. Or this is what Natalie Pinkham revealed during a conversation in the F1 Nation podcast.

The Sky Sports F1 journalist made an interesting revelation about Alonso. She said, “I’ve actually found him really easy to interview. I find him a joy to interview because he gives you so much more than you ask for because he is quite perceptive and aware. He did say since leaving and coming back he did sort of become much more aware of how difficult the journalist’s job is. Therefore, he is much more sympathetic to them now.”

The reporter then revealed the possible reason behind this change of attitude towards reporters. “It also helps that he is dating Andrea from Austrian telly who is such a lovely girl. She has probably been in his ear ‘go on, give us a break, we’re trying to do our job.'”

Lance Stroll wants a ruthless teammate like Fernando Alonso to push his own limits

“It’s no fun when you’re just kind of driving around with no one pushing you. I think what you want in a teammate is a guy that is at the top of his game. It means that when you get more out of it than him, you’re really at the top of your game, and vice versa.”

“When you’re not getting the most out of it, it’s not that you can just sit back and relax. You’ve got to try and work harder,” he added, making Alonso the perfect catalyst for him.
