The F1 world has known for a while that Max Verstappen is championship-winning material. Ever since he made his debut, he has been touted to replace Lewis Hamilton at the top of the ladder. And even though he’s having a hard time defeating the Briton, David Coulthard suggests that only racing gods can stop the 23-year-old from winning the title.

Verstappen showed his true form in the opening round in Bahrain by taking pole position. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be as Lewis Hamilton stole his victory by defeating him.

At Imola, however, the Dutchman showed exactly what he’s made of. Despite starting in third place, he took the lead almost immediately and held on to it till the end, bringing home the first win of the season for himself and the Milton Keynes squad.

Coulthard feels only a racing god can stop Max Verstappen

As quoted by the DailyMail, Coulthard said, ”So the only thing that I think can stand in the way of Max and Red Bull Racing really taking this championship is the racing Gods maybe getting involved in a few things with reliability.

“Because he is definitely experienced enough, he is definitely mature enough, which at 23 seems incredible but he is ready. He is more than ready,” Coulthard concluded.

Ralf Schumacher feels Verstappen can take advantage of Hamilton’s mistake

It’s not often that we see Mercedes #44 driver make mistakes, but when he does, his rivals, especially Verstappen, surely benefit from them. Just like at Emilia GP, where Hamilton went off track and gave the Dutchman the ability to pull away and win the race. Hence, former F1 driver, Ralf Schumacher feels Hamilton can make more mistakes if pushed by Verstappen.

Speaking to Sky Germany, as quoted by PlanetF1, he said, “He has to go more to the limit to be able to keep up with Verstappen. “If you go to the limit more, then mistakes happen.”

As it stands, the driver’s championship is neck and neck between Lewis and Max. Hamilton has the lead by a single point and will hope to increase the gap in the upcoming race in Portugal.
