It has been a frantic start to the Japanese GP. After a chaotic Singapore GP, fans would have wanted a clean race at Suzuka. However, that hasn’t been the case. We saw a lot of cars going off on Lap 1 because of the standing water on the track. One of the drivers who was caught in the middle of it was Pierre Gasly.

Max Verstappen started the race on Pole followed by the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. While Max and Charles Leclerc got off the block quickly, Carlos had a shocker. Sergio Perez, who was starting behind the Spaniard, got his elbows out and quickly got past him.

It went from bad to worse for Sainz. The Spaniard had a scary shunt before the end of Lap 1, bringing out the red flag. This meant a tractor was deployed to clear the carnage. It’s a well-known fact that a tractor has to wait till all the cars pass before clearing the mess.

But that wasn’t done as Pierre Gasly was yet to pass. This did put the Frenchman’s life in danger and could have led to a major accident. The Frenchman was heard shouting on the team radio: “I could have F**king killed myself.

FIA on the Gasly-incident said, “Car 10, which pitted behind the Safety Car, was then driving at high speed to catch up to the field. As conditions were deteriorating, the Red Flag was shown before Car 10 passed the location of the incident where it had been damaged the previous lap.”
