This is the hardest moment I can remember in my career and it’s absolutely not easy,” said Logan Sargeant when asked about his car being handed to his teammate Alex Albon for the Australian GP. The Thai/ British driver (Albon) who has been the lead point scorer for the Williams F1 Team has the team’s favor yet again, this time at Suzuka. Williams, which only had one car running at Albert Park, has decided to give a hand-me-down to Logan Sargeant in Japan after benching him in Australia. This hasn’t gone down well with the fans.

Albon destroyed his car when he lost control at Albert Park and that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part was when Williams decided to punish Sargeant for Albon’s mistake. With only one car running (and no spare), they benched Sargeant instead of Albon- as Albon had scored 27 points as opposed to Sargeant’s 1 last year. Williams took this tough call then, however, the tough calls didn’t end in Australia.

Will Buxton took to X (formerly Twitter) to inform the F1 fans about the harsh decision the Williams Team has taken yet again. He wrote, “Sargeant confirms he won’t be driving his original car and will instead be using the repaired Williams chassis, formerly driven by Albon, for this weekend’s race. Doesn’t foresee any issues with that as the fix went better than expected. No spare until Miami.”

And the F1 fans have not taken this lightly.

Fans blast Williams Racing for handing Alex Albon the new car

During the Australian GP, talking about their decision, and how tough a call it is, Williams TP James Vowles said, “This decision was not made lightly, and we cannot thank Logan enough for his graceful acceptance, demonstrating his dedication to the team; he is a true team player. This will prove a tough weekend for Williams, and this situation is not one that we will put ourselves in again.” Addressing why this issue cropped up in the first place, Vowles also added it was “unacceptable” that Williams didn’t have a spare chassis available. But the issue of a hand-me-down given to Logan has not been taken lightly by the fans.

Some fans even called out the team for not having a spare chassis available. an occurrence that isn’t very common.
