Remember when Sebastian Vettel moved away from Ferrari? Vettel’s numerous attempts to win the title for Ferrari went in vain as he handed the baton over to Leclerc with hopes that the Monegasque will bring the glory back to Ferrari. Well, he hasn’t been able to do so as Charles Leclerc‘s title hopes destruction was pinned on a 73-year-old traditional Ferrari story. What is this story?

Kimi Raikkonen was the last driver to win an F1 championship wearing the Red overalls of Ferrari. Prior to that, it was Michael Schumacher who revolutionized the Ferrari from the mid-late 1990s slump and brought them back to win the championship 5 consecutive times from 1999 to 2004. However, ever since then, no Ferrari driver has won the championship. Although all three No.1 drivers since Kimi Raikkonen have come close to winning it.

Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, and Charles Leclerc all had their sights set on the championship during at least 1 season with the Scuderia. Nonetheless, their dreams wouldn’t come true. Leclerc is the most recent one who was leading the championship in the first half of the season last year. But then was beaten to it by the mighty Red Bull and Max Verstappen. Mark Gallagher recently opened up about Leclerc’s career and Ferrari.

However, his future is yet not confirmed. Pointing his finger toward Ferrari, as per MSN, Gallagher said, “If I may say, it looks a little bit like a traditional Ferrari driver story, where you come in with great hope and then it just starts to slightly sour.”

Gallagher’s traditional driver story is very much visible in the cases of the drivers that joined Ferrari after Kimi Raikkonen and even before when F1 came a thing back in 1950. So, a 73-year-old tradition. Charles Leclerc needs to take things into his own hands and start making strategic calls because the frustration of Ferrari’s blunders is now showing up in his words.

The Canadian GP qualifying was a day that everyone at Ferrari would like to forget. Leclerc wasn’t called in for slick tires when he wanted and by the time the team switched, it started drizzling again. And it’s just one of the many examples. Monegasque can be heard complaining to his engineer Xavi about the calls made by the team. Yet Vasseur suggests that Leclerc keep his cool as he doesn’t have all the information while driving.

According to Gazzetta, Frederic Vasseur said, “Charles didn’t expect a season like this. Leclerc is an impetuous character who doesn’t hold back when something doesn’t go as planned. However, for his own good and that of the team, sometimes it’s better to calm down before speaking. When it’s hot, you don’t have all the information you need to form a definitive judgment and in front of an open microphone it’s better to take your time.”[Translated Via Google]
