A cloud of uncertainty looms over Lewis Hamilton‘s future in F1. There has been a lot of speculation around his contract renewal with Mercedes. A week ago, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said that it is a matter of days and not weeks before the new contract is signed. Even Lewis Hamilton cited how he has a scheduled meeting with Toto about the contract. But it has been more than a few days and there has been no public statement by them. This has fueled conspiracy theories that Hamilton may jump ship despite his loyalty to the Silver Arrows!

Earlier in the season, there were rumors of Ferrari offering Hamilton a seat for 2024. But those talks were rubbished by him. However, if Ferrari is interested in signing Hamilton, some drivers might change positions around the grid. But according to former racing driver, Johnny Herbert, there might be something else cooking in the pot.

Herbert said in an exclusive interview with OLBG, as quoted by F1 Maximaal, “[Lewis] Hamilton has been on the verge of signing for at least a month, but I still believe there is a chance he will go to Ferrari. I know they have denied that, but they still haven’t announced a contract extension at Mercedes.”

He further added, saying, “They keep saying they’re very close to signing a new contract. I wonder if there’s more going on. In my opinion, a gamble can pay off for Lewis (Hamilton, ed.), because I see that despite the recent improvements, Mercedes is still far from being able to challenge Red Bull and win races. Ferrari has an incredible amount of potential that it can put on the table. I still question Mercedes.”

The legend of ‘Prime Lewis Hamilton’ is back. In Canada, he showed a glimpse of what he can do if given the right machinery. After a great qualifying session, Hamilton started 3rd on the grid. He kept his race pace constant to finish P3 at the chequered flag, adding another podium finish in a struggle-filled season.

Till before the Spanish GP, only Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso were fighting for P1 [at least on paper]. But Hamilton joined the party in Spain and continued it in Canada. After the Canadian GP, he said, “I think our pace was a little bit closer today, so we are going in the right direction.”

The Montreal podium was graced by 3 World Champions and they had nothing but respect for each other. Such competitive racing is what all fans look forward to. With Hamilton in the mix now, the forthcoming races should be neck-to-neck, irrespective of where Lewis decides to stay or move for his future.
