Do you recall when Michael Schumacher started crying at the 2000 Italian GP post-race press conference? Schumacher had just won the Italian GP and started sobbing as he equaled his Idol, Ayrton Senna’s win record. Max Verstappen isn’t really known for showing his emotions and seemed pretty normal to the naked eye. However, Christian Horner revealed Verstappen’s true feelings as we witnessed Super Max equal Ayrton Senna’s record. What did Horner reveal?
Max Verstappen’s win in Canada meant multiple milestones were reached by the Dutchman and his Austrian team. Ayrton Senna, arguably the best driver to ever grace F1, won a total of 41 races. However, Verstappen, who’s only 25, has equaled that feat with his win in Canada. Not only that, it was Red Bull’s 100th win in F1 since the team joined F1 in the mid-2000s. Also, another record that isn’t spoken much about is how this win was Adrian Newey’s 200th Win as an aerodynamicist in F1.
Prior to the weekend, when Max Verstappen was informed about how he could equal Senna’s record, the Dutchman very humbly advised that he doesn’t focus much on record and that drivers of modern day cannot be compared to the one from the olden times. However, Christian Horner came forward to reveal what must be going on inside his star driver’s mind. Horner explains that Verstappen doesn’t express himself much and is very reserved. However, in his mind, it would mean a lot for him to equal Senna’s record.

According to speedweek.com, Christian Horner said, “He is not one who shows great emotions. He is a very modest guy. In many ways, he is very reserved. But I think it will mean a lot to him behind the scenes. He’s not the guy who jumps up and down on the podium. He loves racing, he drives the car hard, he gives everything. What you see, you also get. He drives at an incredible level, with the way he works with the team, with the self-confidence he has, and the maturity he has.”
