The F1 teams and Team Principals are always on the lookout for top talent. Poaching has become a common thing among teams to get whatever advantage they can gain over rivals. The Red Bull v/s Mercedes battle doesn’t just take place on the racetrack. Their off-track battles for recruiting the best of mechanics and engineers go on. And in a recent battle for recruiting an ex-Ferrari top engineer, Christian Horner has beat Toto Wolff.

The Engineer being talked about is Ferrari‘s ex-engineer, Angelo Rosetti, who worked for the team for 11 years. He held the post of ‘Fluid Dynamic and Combustion team leader – F1 Engine R&D’ for the last 8 years before resigning. Any team would be lucky to have him considering the amount of experience and knowledge that he has.

After he left Ferrari before the start of the 2023 season, he was bound to get offers from rivals. And he did. He got two offers on his table, and they were from the two best teams on the grid – Red Bull and Mercedes. Horner and Wolff, both were eager to sign him. And as per the latest reports, Rosetti has accepted Horner’s offer and declined Toto Wolff‘s. With the 2026 setup of cars that will include electric power along with combustion power, Red Bull could benefit a lot from his expertise as this could be a brutal blow as well to Wolff & Co. at Brackley, missing out on Rosetti.

Most things seem to be going Red Bull‘s way this season. The team has won all races this season and Horner has dedicated the win in Austria to the late Red Bull founder.

Christian Horner Dedicates Super-Dominant Win At the Red Bull Ring to Late Founder, Dietrich Mateschitz

At the Austrian GP this year, Max Verstappen put on a one-sided show once again. In Lap 69, he was 24 seconds clear of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in P2. All that was left was to steal the fastest lap from his teammate, Sergio Perez. The team hesitated at first but asked him to pit in lap 70, taking a risk. And it paid off. The Dutchman got the fastest lap in lap 71, getting an extra point for himself, and brought home victory.

After the race, Christian Horner was asked why the team took such a risk. One mistake in the pits and Leclerc could have overtaken and won the race. Horner said that he wanted to honor Red Bull’s late founder whose motto was “No risk, no fun”.

After the race, Horner said, “Stunning weekend from [Verstappen] and the first time we’ve been back here since Dietrich’s passing, it felt very poignant that it was a great team performance today. “We decided to go for the fastest lap on the last lap, despite the risk involved in fluffing a pit stop. It was at the back of my mind his mantra was ‘no risk, no fun’ and the mechanics have been in such great form it seemed like a low-risk thing to do in the end.”
