Christian Horner praised Sergio Perez for his podium finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, saying it was the perfect response to the media’s tendency to blow things out of proportion in Formula 1. Perez secured his 32nd career podium and first at the Hungaroring, providing a much-needed reminder of his abilities after a recent slump.

While Perez drives a dominant Red Bull car that has won all 11 races so far, most of those victories went to his teammate Max Verstappen. However, Pérez’s third-place finish demonstrated his skill and took some pressure off him following a series of lackluster performances. Horner commended Pérez’s bold overtaking and strong pace during the race, calling it an outstanding performance. As per Racefans.net, Christian also pointed fingers at the media who have hyped Checo’s struggling narrative by saying, “The problem is you guys [the media], wind things up and you can go from hero to zero in this business pretty quickly. He’s not immune to that. And I think he responded in the best possible way and did his talking on the circuit and delivered a great performance.”

Earlier in the season, Pérez’s form had dipped, leading to rumors about his future with Red Bull and the possibility of Daniel Ricciardo taking his seat. However, Pérez’s impressive drive in Hungary silenced the critics and solidified his position in the team. Horner saw it as a statement drive, proving that Pérez shouldn’t be underestimated.

Perez admitted the intense scrutiny, where a poor session at Red Bull brings immense pressure with constant media scrutiny. Compared to teams like Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Mercedes, Red Bull’s pressure is unmatched. Other drivers face fewer consequences for bad moments.
