In the world of Formula One, the mention of Max Verstappen and Red Bull goes hand in hand. The Dutch driver won the 2021 world championship in a dramatic fashion at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. After he crossed the chequered flag, he came on the team radio and asked if they could do this for a few more years.

The 24-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the 2023 season. But Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull has stated a contract isn’t needed to show the bond they share.

The Dutch pilot has been with the team ever since he first stepped onto the Formula One grid. Now in 2021, he won his first world title. Max’s deal expires in 2023, but Horner has faith that the connection he has with the team is much stronger than a contract.

Horner said, “Relationships, I think, are not about contracts, it’s exactly about relationships. And Max, he came into the team as almost a boy and he’s grown into a young man, and he’s grown with the team.”

“I think the relationship we share, the trust we share in each other, is worth more than any piece of paper. I look forward to racing with Max for many years to come and I believe the best years are very much still to come,” Horner concluded.
