Red Bull might have had an unfortunate start this season. But they redeemed that loss in Jeddah, bagging a P1 and P4 finish. Meanwhile, their rival Mercedes is in poor form at the moment, only bagging a podium in Bahrain because the Red Bull cars retired from the race. However, Christian Horner still believes that their German rivals will soon join the fight at the front.

The Silver Arrows have been dominating the sport for almost the past decade. But their total dominance ended last season when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the 2021 Drivers’ Championship against Lewis Hamilton. Hence, the German constructors came this year with high hopes to dominate the 2022 season.

The team’s hopes miserably crashed as they had a bad start to the 2022 season. Many fans are even speculating this might be the end of the German team’s glory days. As things stand, Mercedes is even struggling to battle midfield against teams like Haas and Alfa Romeo.

However, the Red Bull team principal who has been fighting the Silver Arrows for a long time now still believes that the German constructor will make a comeback this season.

Horner reported, “I don’t feel anything about Mercedes being left behind. We are focused only on ourselves and we are in a very intense fight with Ferrari. I have no doubt that Mercedes will be involved in this fight at some point.”

The 2022 season for Christian Horner and his team so far

The Milton Keynes base looks strong this season with their 2022 challenger RB18. Despite that, they couldn’t get a single point in the first race. Max Verstappen had to retire from the race due to a suspected fuel pump issue. Soon after Verstappen’s retirement, Sergio Perez‘s engine ceased, allowing Hamilton to take third place in the Bahrain GP. But the Bulls came back much stronger and dominated in Jeddah.

First, Checo claimed the pole in qualifying against the Ferrari duo. And on Sunday, the reigning champion chased down Charles Leclerc, eventually winning the race.

Undoubtedly, the 2022 season looks good for the Austrian team, but they need to be wary of the Maranello-based team at the moment.
