Changing of guards between Red Bull and Mercedes has been a game the two teams have been playing for a long time. While Red Bull stays the older team, the Silver Arrows came to the scene and swept the rug from under the feet of the Milton Keynes outfit. And since 2022, the baton is now with RB again. Perhaps this has made the team boss Christian Horner a boastful man, just like how Toto Wolff used to be in his glory days. At least this is what an ex-team boss believes.

Horner showcased a rather haughty attitude in a Sky Sports interview after the Miami GP showed off what the team had achieved, highlighting that five races in and five wins have gone to Red Bull. To add to that, he added that they had four 1-2s as well. He also took a jab at the rest of the grid, exclaiming where the competition was. Though this statement was seen in a bad light and borderline arrogant, however, Johnny Herbert feels it’s normal to have this attitude sighting Toto Wolff as an example.

He said, “I remember Toto Wolff saying the exact same thing when Mercedes was in its dominant period, so it’s a typical arrogant comment. You know you have a good car and you know no one else has a chance to beat you.”

While this was the sheer dominance witnessed by Mercedes for a very long continuous period, the happiness is now Red Bull’s.

If what the team has achieved so far isn’t dominance, then I wouldn’t know what is. The championship contention going on between the drivers of the same team is perhaps what is keeping their boss happy.

Adding to Johnny Herbert’s observations, Billy Monger said: “He’s going to be loving every second of this, sat there going, ‘Where’s our competition at?’ These are the years in Formula 1 which a team principal hopes will come around – the years where you’re in a league of your own with no-one to fight with. You’re just turning up and winning Grands Prix. Christian is going, ‘I wonder where we’re going to finish this weekend, let me have a guess’. That is a stress-free Christian Horner we’ve got this season.”
