Red Bull’s cost cap saga has finally ended. The FIA had earlier found the champions in breach of the regulations, and now the punishment has arrived. The fans are, however, far from satisfied with the decision.

Even before FIA’s report on 2021’s cost cap arrived, rumor markets were rife with news of Red Bull violating the regulation. The rumors became reality when FIA found them guilty of going overboard by $2.2 million. Now that the sanctions for the violation have arrived, Mercedes might think their rivals have gotten away easy.
FIA’s verdict on Red Bull violation attracts fans’ fury
As reported by ESPN F1, FIA has fined Red Bull $7 million and there will be a 10% reduction in their aerodynamic research. This also means that will be no reduction in points from 2021 and Max Verstappen will retain the drivers’ championship title. The fans believe the Milton Keynes-based team has gotten away for cheap.
Here are some of the angry reactions from fans on Twitter.
This is a fucking joke… https://t.co/Q6Yt1l3klq

One Mercedes fan urged his team to break the cost cap if this is the extent of punishment they’d have to face for it.

Another fan highlighted how much Red Bull gained from the breach and should be “dragged through the courts.”
This is a catastrophic decision, you have been bullied by red bull into a slapped wrist for cheating hundreds of millions in winnings and 2 wdc. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope you get dragged through the courts for this. Hundreds of jobs lost to adhere to this….

Some fans recalled former race director Michael Masi’s role in Verstappen’s successful 2021 campaign.
So Max won the 2021 WDC after Red Bull cheated the cost rules and Michael Masi cheated the rule book.
Sounds legit 🤔— Peter Harrison (@Specialized_Cb) October 28, 2022
I still can’t get my head around how blatant the cheating of masi was and now red bull on top of it all! How they are not gonna be stripped of their fake arse title I can’t comprehend #disgrace @fia

Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff had earlier highlighted how the breach should not be termed ‘minor’ as a minor monetary breach can have a big impact on the championship.
Toto Wolff on Red Bull’s “minor” breach
After Max Verstappen sealed his 2nd world title with a dominant showing at Suzuka, Toto Wolff opened up on Red Bull’s cost cap breach and the FIA categorizing it under “procedural and minor overspend breaches.”
Wolff said, “It is a so-called minor violation, but I believe that the definition is not completely correct. If you spend five million more than the limit, it is still a minor violation, but the impact on the championship is significant.”

Toto continued, “We always monitor closely which parts are brought to the track by the top teams in each race, and for at least two seasons, we can see that there are two top teams that are the same and another that instead spends more…”
“So you can understand spending an extra $500,000 can make a difference.”
