Has Charles Leclerc lost his edge, or is he just going through a rough patch?

Since his Monaco GP triumph earlier this year, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has struggled to secure top finishes. Causing concern among Tifosi about his future races. Despite being hailed as Ferrari’s ‘Golden Boy,’ he is facing challenges, encountering on-track errors and technical setbacks that hinder his podium prospects. Leclerc, the ‘Chosen One’ for both Monaco and Ferrari fans carries immense pressure on him to deliver consistent results on the World Championship stage.

However, this year since the very first race, Leclerc was a beast. He secured podiums, fighting heads-on against Max Verstappen. And with a win in Monaco, Charles had brought Ferrari back into the main picture. Unfortunately, the joy proved short-lived. Soon, the Canadian Grand Prix exposed the side that Tifosi or Charles Leclerc would’ve never wanted to see.

On his podcast Formula For Success, Jordan raised some concerning points in this context. He said: “Charles Leclerc, having won and been the darling of everybody in Monaco, royalty, everyone was bowing to his greatness and that was a great race to win.” Pointing out that Charles’ win had put him on the pedestal of gods for the fans. “Nevertheless, you’ve got to capitalize on those race wins and make sure that you build on it. Otherwise, the foundation is gone,” remarked Eddie Jordan. He raised an important point here, stating that maintaining the performance streak is crucial.

Further, the ex-F1 boss showed his disappointment stating: “I’m struggling to find out why or where is that speed gone that he showed so clearly in Monaco and other races in the past. So we need to watch that.” Not just Eddie Jordan but several other experts and especially fans have shown signs of disappointment. Some going to the extent of calling the Monagasquq an ‘overrated’ F1 driver. Leclerc must turn the tables before it’s too late.

While critics consider Charles Leclerc as a subpar driver, ‘overhyped’ by Ferrari, some strongly believe he needs a better push from his team. Time and again, he has emerged as a major force on the tracks. But somehow he has always missed the mark. Back in 2022, he was leading the points table, giving hope to his fans. They thought, “Finally Ferrari’s drought will end.” Sadly that did not happen. There’s hardly anyone unaware of Leclerc’s speed. Considered one of the faster drivers on the present grid, the start of the season was promising.

Leclerc’s season featured five podiums, including a Monaco win, marking the peak of his recent form. However, subsequent races brought disappointment, with a DNF and lower finishes, leaving him frustrated with the persistent challenges. However, this does not define him as average. With six Grand Prix wins and numerous podiums, Charles Leclerc is seen as a potential future World Champion with Ferrari. Despite recent setbacks, his impressive record speaks for itself, and his fans remain confident in his comeback.
