Undoubtedly, Charles Leclerc is one of the best drivers on the Formula One grid. The Monegasque racing driver gives credit to his late father, Hervé Leclerc, who is responsible for making him the talented driver he is.

The Ferrari driver gives a huge thanks to his dad, who helped him in his younger days to learn the basics. Additionally, Leclerc always remembers the lesson his father taught him and that was, to be honest with himself.

The 24-year-old was extremely close to his father and remembers the things he taught him when he was younger. To this day, the Ferrari driver applies those lessons in Formula One, hoping to be the best he can be on the grid.

Speaking to Jason Duaine Hahn in an exclusive interview with People, Leclerc said, “My father was always a huge help for me since the beginning, he gave me a passion for the sport, and he helped me massively in the first years, especially when I had to learn all about the basics of the sport.”

“What my father also taught me is, to be honest with myself. And this is, for me, the most important. Especially when you arrive in Formula 1, you’ve got a lot of people around you, not because you are a nice person, but because you are a Formula 1 driver. And you always hear nice things about yourself, which is not always helpful.

“He taught me to be honest with myself, to look in the mirror after a race and say, “Okay, Charles, what could you have done better in this race?” This allows me to be critical of myself, and try to learn from it,” Leclerc concluded.
