Following the 2020 F1 season, Red Bull opted against handing one of their seats to Alex Albon, who had just endured a horrendous campaign alongside Max Verstappen. And history suggested that a return to F1 was improbable for the Red Bull junior.

However, despite the underlying odds, Albon finally managed to make his return to F1, with the legendary racing outfit, Williams. The Thai-Briton will be racing alongside Canadian driver, Nicholas Latifi.

Hence, considering Albon’s return, one of the members of the ‘Twitch Quartet’, Charles Leclerc heaved a sigh of relief. The Monegasque opined that this is a well-deserving chance for the current DTM driver and sounded certain that Albon could pull off a few unexpected results too.

What did Charles Leclerc say?

Ahead of the race weekend at Monza, the Ferrari driver lauded Red Bull’s decision to bring back Albon into F1. He reckoned that Albon is one of the few drivers who has constantly received massive appreciation from the entire F1 community.

I am so happy for Alex Albon. I mean honestly, he deserves a drive in this paddock. He is a great driver & a great person too. I think he is appreciated by everyone in the paddock. And this does not happen very often,” the 2-time Grand Prix winner said.

One of the key reasons behind Red Bull’s decision to hunt for an F1 seat for Albon was his Nurburgring race victory in DTM. The Thai-Briton has hardly shown his presence on the podium ever since he carved his way into F1.

Hence, the time off from F1 has certainly played out well for Albon, who now stands with a Williams contract in hand, oozing with massive confidence.

There is no denying that Albon has an unfinished business with F1. He hardly enjoyed success during his 1.5-year stint with Red Bull. The second driver curse was clinging onto Albon the entire time, and Red Bull ultimately had to remove the 25-year-old from the seat.

Albon’s predecessor, Pierre Gasly, had faced a similar fate. Only in his case, he managed to return to Toro Rosso (now, AlphaTauri). However, to Albon’s poor luck, there was no space in their sister team, AlphaTauri, either.
