Charles Leclerc was always an F1 celebrity, being Ferrari’s star driver. However, before the Monaco victory, the last time he was at the top of the podium was in 2022 at the Austrian Grand Prix. Now that he has won his home Grand Prix, Leclerc has become the first Monegasque driver to do so, which has raised his popularity through the roof.
Everyone wants to talk to Leclerc and learn about his experience at the Monaco Grand Prix, and popular podcast host, Jay Shetty beat most of the world to it. Just a day after the victory, the podcast anchor sat down with the Monaco GP winner and spoke to him about how important the moment was for him. To this end, Leclerc explains how this win is for his father while revealing details of his childhood with him.

When Charles Leclerc won his home race for the first time, he said this one is for his dad and Jules Bianchi, who had believed in him since his early years. Now that neither of them is around, Leclerc tributes his win to them. While talking to Jay Shetty, the Ferrari driver was asked, “What was his reaction when you won, and what was his reaction when you didn’t win?”
Leclerc revealed, “I think the honesty to myself always came from my father. He was always super honest with me. He was obviously harsh whenever things weren’t going the way he wanted or whenever he thought there was a mistake to be made at that time in my career. But at the same time, he was incredibly happy whenever I won.” He spoke about how his father supported him during his early days, saying, “He came to every race, absolutely every race. However, I would say he was a bit of a different father during races because fathers tend to be always with their kids, pushing them. He would always take a step back, letting me grow in my own environment with my engineers and mechanics. At the end of the weekend, he would discuss things with me.”
Although Leclerc’s father was involved in his racing career, he let the Monaco GP winner do his own thing. This is the opposite of how Max Verstappen‘s racing career has been, with Jos taking the wheel for most of the decisions. It’s only fair, being a motorsport racer, that Jos would want to help his son succeed, and so far that’s been working. He is the son’s unofficial manager and makes sure that everything is going right for the Dutch champion. Each father comes with their own parenting style and none is better than another, just unique. However, Leclerc’s dad was not the only member who supported the driver through his career, as his mother has always been a pillar for him.

Charles Leclerc’s mum’s influence on his career
The Monegasque driver opened up about how things were after his father passed. Leclerc told Shetty, “When I lost my father, I obviously still had my mom, but she doesn’t have the technical knowledge that my father had about racing. It’s super important to have close people who, throughout your career, at whatever level, can tell you the right things at the right moment. This was super important to me.”
The #16 driver has faced difficulties of seeing loved ones pass, but he has never let that stop him from achieving his dreams and making them proud. Leclerc was said to be cured at Monaco, but this year, with his mother being at the circuit, it was only obvious that third time would be the charm.
