Earlier this year, Charles Leclerc signed a long-term deal with Scuderia Ferrari. This new contract now sees him in the scarlet overalls until the end of 2024. However, all eyes are now trained on teammate Sebastian Vettel. Needless to say, there are plenty of questions on his Ferrari future.

Admittedly, the four-time world champion is eager to stay on with the Maranello outfit. Even team principal Mattia Binotto confessed that he would love to retain Vettel’s services.

Last year, Vettel and Leclerc’s maiden tryst as teammates hit a number of bumps. The 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix was actually the most significant blemish on Ferrari’s 2019 record. After some fierce tussling, the duo banged wheels and suffered a double retirement. Despite the incident, Charles Leclerc insists that their relationship is still intact.

What does Charles Leclerc think of Sebastian Vettel?

During a conference call, Charles Leclerc said, “Even though we had a few problems on track like in Brazil and things like this, I’m very happy with Seb and it has always been a good relationship even if from the outside it’s probably not seen as it was.

“It has always been good between us so I would be happy to keep him but I will respect Ferrari’s decision for whoever is next to me and at the end of the day it’s my job to adapt to the person next to me and you can always learn from whoever is your team mate. I would welcome anybody but if Seb stays I would definitely be happy.”

Both, Sebastian Vettel and Scuderia Ferrari are locked in contract negotiations. So far, pen has not been put to paper, and speculation is rife. However, Vettel suggested that a decision may come before the delayed 2020 campaign finally commences.

Last weekend, Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Vettel wanted a two-year deal. However, Ferrari’s counter-offer was a one-year deal with a reduced salary that is on par with Leclerc’s. Some suggested that Vettel turned down the one-year deal, though it is merely speculation at best. Whatever the case, Ferrari insist that they will have an answer sometime soon.
