Heading into the 2023 season, the drivers are prepared to take on their first of the 23 challenges of the season. The 2023 season also marks the longest calendar for a Formula 1 season. 23 races in a calendar is an exhausting aspect that the drivers will face for the first time in their lives. This is exactly why drivers will resort to various off-track activities to take their minds off of racing. However, for Charles Leclerc, the record calendar and the racing will come in the way of his passion.
Leclerc has often showcased his passion for playing the piano and his need for it, especially during difficult times, in the past. However, it seems the Monegasque will have to stick to his in-house activities because of the grueling calendar. Leclerc revealed that during the latest F1: Beyond the Grid podcast.

The host, Tom Clarkson, quizzed the Ferrari man about his passion and hobbies. Leclerc replied, “I love to paddle. I’m still playing but I think I was I already playing last year. Ice climbing is becoming more of a thing now.”
During the conversation, Leclerc was also reminded of his forgotten passion. “Oh, Mia is showing me. I started my flying lessons to actually pass my flying license. But to be honest, it’s just to mention it. I started last year, and the season started and I didn’t have much time to actually practice it. Every year is going to be the same. Yeah, I’m not so confident about continuing it.”

The idea of getting his flying license could be in the air thanks to the upcoming intense season. However, there was one reason that motivated Leclerc to take to the skies. This reason alone could push Leclerc to take the lesson again.

Speaking with the New York Times, Leclerc revealed, “I’ve never been particularly confident in a plane. This is something that has pushed me, even more, to pass my plane license, so if ever something went wrong, I would understand it all and I can be in control.”
In the same interview, Leclerc revealed he had to stop because of the 2022 season. As things stand, the Monegasque might not get time in 2023 at all to take further lessons.

Taking to the skies is no joke. So let’s hope Leclerc only gets back in the pilot seat when he’s 100% certain. Until then, he will have to stick to practicing his flying laps on the track.
