Mercedes have had a rather surprising start to the season with their struggles. The German team are currently lagging behind Red Bull and Ferrari in P3 in the constructor’s championship. But it does not surprise Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc that the world champions are struggling in 2022.

He mentioned it is natural for a dominant team to have a dip in form at some point in time. Mercedes have looked off the pace since the Pre-season testing and have had no answers to Red Bull and Ferrari.
Charles Leclerc is not surprised by Mercedes’s struggles
The Monegasque driver mentioned it is always weird when a dominant team has a slump in form. But he also discarded the fact that they’re out of the championship fight and cannot bounce back in the 2022 season.

“It’s obviously weird whenever such a dominant team struggles at the beginning of the season. That’s also why I never really discarded them from the championship because I know how strong of a team they are, what they’ve shown in the last years is not by chance, it’s because they’ve got the right people and they are working in the right way,” said Charles to Motorsport.

It would be unwise to rule Mercedes out, but in some ways, Charles would want them to be out of the title fight this season. His quest for the first world champion has just gotten a bit harder after his Monaco GP heartbreak.

Martin Brundle comments on Ferrari’s Monaco debacle
Former F1 driver and Sky Sports pundit Martin Brundle mentioned one could only feel sorry for the Monegasque driver in his home race. The Italian team made a strategic blunder to deny Leclerc his first win in Monaco.

“You must feel sorry for local boy Charles Leclerc. He aced pole position and comfortably led the race only for a strategy to consign him to fourth place,” wrote Brundle in his column.
