Shell, the fuel that powers Formula 1, uploaded a video on its YouTube channel titled–“It’s an expert roundtable as F1 and NASCAR unite”. Around the round table were Ferrari Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, sitting with NASCAR driver Joey Logano. As three of the hottest names in the Motorsport sit down to talk, the conversation goes off track.

After discussing the differences in both sports in terms of horsepower and lap times, the conversation moved towards street cars. While discussing the driver’s rides, Joey Logano brings up that he likes old cars, and that’s when Leclerc revealed the Ferrari he has his eyes on.

My dream car is a 288 GTO. That is my dream,” said Charles Leclerc, bringing up the legendary Ferrari that was driven by Michael Schumacher and Niki Lauda. Leclerc then said, “One day, maybe.” To which Logano asked, “What are you waiting on?” Leclerc replied saying, “I mean, they are not easy to find. They are incredible cars.”

When Logano said, “You might know a person.” Leclerc replied, “Yes, yes, I do.” Even Carlos Sainz added to the conversation, saying, “Yeah, he does, he does.” Knowing that Leclerc is a Ferrari driver, it is obvious that his dream car is a Ferrari. He has often mentioned that as a child, it was his dream to race in red and the 288 GTO is one of the most regarded cars in the world. What makes it even more rare is that the car is one of five pieces in the world.

The car comes with a mid-mounted 2.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that gives 650 bhp. The car can go up to 229mph and is made with kevlar and fiberglass. Developed during the era of Group B racing, the 288 GTO Evoluzione was intended for homologation purposes to compete in motorsport events. The Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione with chassis number 79888 was last reported sold by RM Sotheby’s for a whopping $4.4 million. If Leclerc decides to get the car, it will be a heavy investment to add the car to his garage.

So what cars do the Ferrari drivers currently drive?

The conversation started with the 288 GTO, but that was not the end of the conversation. After Sainz stated that Leclerc knew someone with a 288 GTO for sale, Lagano asked him, “What do you drive, Carlos?” This is where Sainz revealed that his weekend drive is the Ferrari 812 Competizione. But one was not enough for him and he ended up getting another one. “Since I knew that we only use 99% of the same products as in F1” Sainz bought the other car he said.

When the question was taken back to Charles Leclerc, he said he drives a 488 Pista with a Competizione Aperta arriving in December. Both the Ferrari drivers own Ferrari and live the brand. But with Carlos Sainz’s departure from Ferrari in 2025, Lewis Hamilton will take the seat. That being said, where do you think Carlos Sainz will head after Ferrari?
