The last two races have been difficult for Ferrari. With Carlos Sainz parting ways with the Maranello-based outfit at the end of the season, it does not look like he is getting the sweetest goodbyes. It’s been a tough season for the Spaniard, despite winning a race in Australia. He has finished behind his teammate on most occasions and the same was true at Sainz’s home race. So when Charles Leclerc expressed his frustrations after the GP, Carlos Sainz did not stay quiet.

The quarrels between the two Ferrari drivers have been noticed on track since last year, however, as the Spaniard is leaving the team next season the news was unfavorably delivered to him. Carlos Sainz did not get the home race he wanted despite supporting Leclerc in Monaco. So after Leclerc expressed his dissatisfaction with the race, Sainz responded to it. This unrest between the Ferrari teammates is being noticed by many reporters, and Italian journalist Leo Turrini had some strong words to say about this.

When two teammates start battling each other, it’s almost never good news for the team or the fans. Everyone is put on edge hoping that they don’t make contact as the only loser is the team overall. Each battle costs drivers lap time and when the race is against Max Verstappen in front, it cannot go unnoticed. When the two drivers made their comments after the race, Turrini made a statement about his thoughts on the team’s performance.

He explained, “Yes, big words flew after the race, with Leclerc ready to accuse Sainz for an alleged failure to respect agreements made before the start. The Spaniard responded in kind.” He explained that this was expected as now Carlos Sainz has a lot to prove as he needs to find a seat for next year. Turrini added, “It was even predictable that it would come to this, given that Lewis Hamilton’s arrival had been announced so far in advance (and the climate isn’t any better at Mercedes).”

However, bringing up the grave truth of the Ferrari battle, the Italian journalist said, “But the depressing thing is that the squabble involves two champions forced to fight each other for a fifth place. Seriously, this last detail is even more embarrassing than any other consideration.” Although the Tifosi are just getting used to the idea of having 2 GP wins in a year, the rest of the season looks difficult. Their competition is not only Red Bull at the moment but also McLaren who have finished on the podium more often than the Scuderia. Let’s take a look at the challenges that the team needs to overcome to get back in contention for the constructors championship.

Ferrari’s stance after the Spanish Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc was up to P2 in the driver’s championship and due to the last two races, he lost the position to Lando Norris. Now with McLaren proving time and time again that the car is ready to win races, Ferrari is starting on the backfoot. Although they have a lead in the constructors, Red Bull is in their way. In the last two races, Mercedes joined the competition snatching the podium from Ferrari. The team is in the middle of a stormy season as the tides are pushing them away from the competition. Their main threat is Lando Norris who is on the tail of Max Verstappen in every race. There is still quite a bit of work for the team to do if they want to win a championship and beating Red Bull will not be easy.

This is the parting season with Carlos Sainz, and the team needs to give the drivers a faster car if they want to be in contention. Lucky for Ferrari both McLaren and Red Bull’s other drivers are missing out on good points, keeping them in the game. There is still a long season ahead so the team has time to implement more upgrades. If the team keeps up the pace they are in contention for the constructors championship if not the drivers too.
