“Honestly, I don’t need a season to prove or to show to anyone what I am capable of,” said Carlos Sainz in the first media interaction of 2024. He has been in the sport for almost a decade and the man has scored 19 podiums and wins in both his seasons for Scuderia Ferrari. However, the harsh reality is that he doesn’t have a seat for 2025, but the good part is there is still a lot of time left. And the latest update sounds like an ultimate swap with Lewis Hamilton.

Carlos Sainz’s name has been linked to various teams, from Audi to Aston Martin to Red Bull and now Mercedes. The German team, who probably can never fill a Hamilton-sized hole in their outfit, has been the most shocked and at a loss by Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. However, instead of moping, Toto Wolff and the team have begun the hunt. And Sainz Junior is definitely on the list.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, during the Saudi Arabian GP, the entire entourage of Carlos Sainz remained in the Mercedes hospitality for a long time. Sainz Jr’s contract with Ferrari expires at the end of the season, and for this reason, his manager Carlos Onorio, together with the driver’s father Carlos Sainz Sr. spoke at length with Toto Wolff. The negotiations have begun.

There hasn’t been a day when Carlos Sainz hasn’t been in the news ever since the 2024 season began. The latest was due to his illness. The man sat out during the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix and an 18-year-old rookie took his place. While the world rejoiced at seeing Ollie’s stellar debut, the kid himself wants to give back Sainz his seat and Ferrari Boss echoes the emotion.

Talking to the media at Jeddah, Ferrari TP Frederic Vasseur stated, “The recovery so far is amazing. The fact he was able to come today to be with the team is a very good sign and a very good support for us. Now, he will fly back with me tomorrow [Sunday] and he will have one week of complete rest, and we will make a decision on when he has to fly to Melbourne in one week’s time. But I’m quite optimistic.”
